What we did
The project
Together with the Internal Audit and Investigations Group (IAIG) of UNOPS, we developed a comprehensive repositioning and communication strategy to enhance its visibility and effectiveness within UNOPS. This initiative focused on clarifying IAIG’s role, enhancing its independence, and improving stakeholder engagement through strategic communications and branding.
IAIG, serving as a critical component of UNOPS, faced challenges related to its perceived independence and the clarity of its role among stakeholders. The repositioning aimed to address these issues by strengthening IAIG’s brand identity and communication strategies to better reflect the Group’s core values.
Building an identity of protection and trust
We created a three-tiered approach to build a stronger, more independent brand identity for IAIG. This included developing a unique visual style that distinguished IAIG from UNOPS while maintaining alignment with the overarching organizational values. The strategy emphasized clear and effective communication to articulate IAIG’s role, how staff and consultants engage with IAIG, and how they effectively communicate the Group to its stakeholders.
Strengthening organizational identity and stakeholder trust
We established an independent brand identity for IAIG, distinct yet aligned with UNOPS’s core values. This was supported by a new digital strategy that introduced evergreen microsites focusing on reporting protocols, audit processes, and educational content to clarify IAIG’s functions and enhance operational efficiency. Additionally, the strategy underlined the need to cultivate a communications culture within IAIG to ensure proactive engagement and consistent messaging, which in turn would strengthen stakeholder trust.
Protecting integrity and building trust
The repositioning and communication strategy significantly improved IAIG’s standing within UNOPS and among its external partners. By clarifying its role and enhancing its independence through strategic communications, IAIG has been able to foster greater trust and cooperation from stakeholders. The initiative also led to better recognition of IAIG’s contributions to UNOPS, enhancing its ability to effect positive change within the organization.
Our recommendations highlighted the development of interactive digital tools like chatbots for real-time assistance on IAIG’s platforms, hosting collaborative workshops, and establishing a structured feedback mechanism to refine services and foster a dialogue-rich environment. Moving forward, IAIG plans to continue refining its communication strategies and digital tools to adapt to evolving needs and stakeholder expectations.
